Figurative Painting

Created 2000-2006

As a myopic child, I regularly experienced face pareidolia and would see faces in blankets, rug patterns, shadows, etc. Most of these paintings began as textured background that I would develop until I saw a face and “pulled” it out of the noise. Humans have a natural predilection to seek out faces and as an artist, I find faces as a subject matter to have the easiest connection to the viewer.
